Here Again.

"Oh, god. I'm so sorry. Here." You said reaching down and picking up my books I had dropped after we bumped into each other.
Before you had even stood up, I knew it was you.
You stood up and handed me my books before looking at me.
You inhaled sharply.
"Maria." You breathed out as I turned my gaze to the floor.
"Uh.. I gotta go." I said before running off.
You didn't come after me.
Now I have to live in the question of 'what if'.
I wish you had come after me.
Those chances only come once in a lifetime.
You missed yours.
...Or so I thought.

Two years ago - August 25, 2005
I walked through our front door, coming in from class.
I took of my jacket and shoes before walking upstairs to our room.
Your voice caused me to freeze. You weren't supposed to be home.
You rarely got breaks when you were on tour,
which is where you were supposed to be now.
You didn't make surprise visits, you liked for everything to be planned out.
Why were you home?
At that moment, I knew something was wrong.
"It was a mistake. I was drunk."
I heard your voice stutter out, pulling me from my thoughts.
By the way your voice seemed to grow close then fade out,
I'd say you were pacing.
Something you always did when you were nervous or uncomfortable.
Something I always teased you about.
"You took advantage of me! I was drunk!
You know I'm not myself when I'm drunk!"
You yelled. I assumed you were on the phone as I heard no other voices,
but you were clearly talking to someone.
"No! I'm not making up excuses! I was drunk, you took advantage. End of story."
I swear my heart stopped in that moment.
I slowly registered everything I head heard.
Someone took advantage of you, when you were drunk...
That could only mean...
"I have a girlfriend!" You yelled down the phone.
My suspicions only became clearer.
I opened the door and walked in.
You dropped the phone.
You knew by the look on my face that I had heard.
"I can't even believe you, Fletcher.
I-I can't do this anymore."
I stuttered out as the tears began to flow.
"Miley, no! It's not what you think!"
You said as I began to pack my things.
I didn't respond, just packed my things quicker.
"Miley, I swear-" "Do not call me Miley, friends call me Miley.
But you... You're dead to me Tom."
I yelled before grabbing my bags and leaving.

"Uh, could you tell me where the milk is?"
A voice asked from behind me. Your voice.
It's times like these, I wished I had a better job than a supermarket.
"Look behind you." I muttered, keeping my back to you,
trying to focus on unpacking the boxes instead of the sound of your footsteps growing closer.
Wait, why were your footsteps getting closer? Crap.
"Maria?" You questioned cautiously.
"No, Bob the Builder." I spat out sarcastically.
"Mi-Maria..." Guess you remember the day I left.
"Tom. Just go, okay?" I said ignoring the fact you were just a foot away from me.
"No. I've watched you walk out of my life twice already."
You said grabbing my arm and turning me to face you.
"I won't let you do it again."
You whispered before kissing me.
I pushed you away. "You'd be the one walking, Fletcher.
And I don't remember you trying that hard to stop me."
I spoke, suddenly finding my shoes very interesting.
"Maria... You think I wanted you to leave?"
You asked with a disappointed sigh.
"Yeah. Probably so you could be with that girl you shagged."
I said and your eyes widened.
You took a step closer until if you didn't know any better, you'd have thought we were touching.
"You think I don't love you anymore?"
You whispered, lifting my head up so I was looking at you,
before kissing me again.
This time, I didn't push you away.
When the kiss ended, you pulled me into a hug.
"Tom... I just don't want to be hurt again."
I spoke into your shirt.
You shook your head.
"I couldn't live with myself if I ever hurt you again."
You whispered in my ear, causing me to shiver.
"I love you, Tom." I said looking up at you.
"I love you too, Miley." You smiled before kissing me.

Two months later
We were lying on your bed, in silence.
It was a comfortable silence though.
As we lay there, something came into my mind.
"Tom?" I asked biting my lip.
"Hmm?" You muttered, preoccupied with a piece of my hair.
"Who was it that you slept with?" I asked and you froze completely.
"I think you at least owe me that..." I said quietly.
You nodded, but your face paled.
You were going to tell me.
Tell me the girl who ruined our life two years ago.
You took a deep breath before speaking their name.
"Danny."

Yeah I was curious how you'd take that.
I'm not one for slash. Buttttt... I had to.
