‘Jess?’
‘Hmm?’ came a sleepy reply.
‘Could you please come over?’

Not ten minutes later the doorbell rang and Kendra opened the door meeting the sleepy face of Jess. She instantly wrapped her in a hug and started sobbing. Jess shushed her and lead her upstairs after closing the door.

‘Now care to tell me what happened?’ Jessica asked Kendra after a good half hour of Kendra crying in Jessica’s arms. The taller girl looked up and wiped her tears away. ‘I made a huge mistake Jess. I feel horrible.’
Jess smiled at her. ‘Now it can’t be that bad, tell me what happened.’

After Kendra told Jess everything that happened the anger was evident on the shorter girl’s face. ‘That bastard! How dare he.’ Kendra smiled at her friend’s outburst. ‘Do you think Jen will hate me now?’ she asked. Jess looked at her surprised. ‘What for?’ ‘Well for kissing her ex. Isn’t that like rule number 1?’ Kendra asked. Jessica scoffed and grabbed Kendra’s hand. ‘Not over here dear.’ And she smiled ‘you’ve got a lot to learn grasshopper.’ They both burst out in laughing. ‘Now come on, let’s meet up with our friends. Ben and Jerry’ Jessica joked and dragged Kendra with her.

After buying a can of Ben & Jerry’s Jess and Kendra settled at the skate ramp like usual and talked about stupid things while joking around. Suddenly the shorter girl stopped talking and nudged Kendra who followed her friend’s gaze. She let out a little gasp when she saw who had just entered the park.

‘Ugh, great’ Jessica groaned and rolled her eyes at Kendra who was desperately trying not to draw the attention of the two boys that just entered the park. ‘Shit!’ Kendra hissed. ‘Danny’s looking our way. Let’s go!’ she was already starting to get up when Jessica pulled her back by her arm. ‘No, we’ll only draw attention to ourselves and maybe he didn’t see us!’ Kendra scoffed. ‘whatever. Let’s just stay quiet yeah?’

Too late.

The taller of the two boys noticed the two girls sitting on the skate ramp now turning away their heads. He squeezed his eyes shut to get a better view of the pair and when he realized he was right about the identities of the girls he nudged his friend. ‘Oi Doug! It’s your girlfriend’ the taller boy said emphasizing the word girlfriend. The shorter boy punched the boy in the shoulder. ‘Danny shut up, she’s not my girlfriend.’ The dirty blonde haired boy said.

The taller, curly, boy rolled his eyes and turned towards his friend while grabbing him by the shoulders. ‘Listen Doug, I’ve had to listen to your whining about this girl ever since she came here. Then this morning you come to me telling me you kissed her and now you go denying she’s your girlfriend?’ Dougie removed Danny’s grip from his shoulders and looked away. ‘Forget it mate. She doesn’t want me. She made that perfectly clear.’

Danny sighed. Disappointed in his friend for giving up so easily. This is not how his friend was. The shorter boy was usually confident of himself, and he wouldn’t let anyone get to him. The fact that his best friend was so upset over this girl only proved his feelings for her. The look on Dougie’s face was clear evidence as well. His once sparkling eyes were now dull of rejection and the smile that was first plastered to his face had disappeared. Danny hated to see his friend this way and decided to do something about it.

He turned around and walked towards the pair of girls who were now quietly talking amongst themselves. He distantly heard his friend hissing his name and telling him to get back. He had crossed half the distance between the two friends and his best friend when he felt someone pull him back and turning him around.

‘Dan, what the fuck is wrong with you?!’ Dougie asked in a whisper. ‘I’m doing what it best for you. I am going to talk to her whether you want it or not. I’m sick of seeing you this way!’ Dougie shook his head. ‘No mate. No! Please’ the look on his younger friend’s face was pleading him not to do it. Danny let out a sigh and shrugged. ‘Fine.’ His friend smiled and they decided to leave much to the pleasure of the two friends who had been quietly watching the pair the entire time.
